Geoffrey Clarke: Extension
Special Viewing Thursday 11th September 5.30-7pmExhibition 10th September - 8th November 2025
Pangolin Gallery, London
In conjunction with Pangolin’s London exhibition, Geoffrey Clarke: Extension (10th September - 8th November, 2025), which featured work in diverse media and forms—sculpture, drawings, paintings, prints, collage, jewellery—the show was “extended” to include the GSA-organised exhibition Re-inSpired. Artworks by eleven GSA artists—jewellery, textiles, graphic design—were made in response to Clarke’s distinctive use of materials and his spire design, known as Crown of Thorns (1964), for St Michael’s Church in Linlithgow, Scotland; and together these works expand our appreciation for design innovation, sculpture, craft, and materials.
Throughout Clarke’s prolific career he worked on many public and liturgical commissions and includes stained glass windows and cast aluminium sculpture for Coventry Cathedral. The artworks in Re-inSpired demonstrate the relevance and continuing influence of Clarke’s work and ideas within contemporary discourse. Just as Clarke collaborated with other artists and craftsman, some of the GSA works were made as collaborations, whether by design or in response to materials and techniques, expression and function. A revised GSA Re-inSpired exhibition catalogue was published for this third and expanded showing of Re-inSpired at Pangolin London.
